Data Sources & Accuracy

Alberta

Active lookups use the Government of Alberta’s ATS Legal Subdivision with Road Allowance polygon layer. LSD Field Maps requests the official polygon in WGS84 coordinates and calculates a geometric centre for the navigation pin.

United States

PLSS searches use the Bureau of Land Management’s National PLSS CadNSDI service. The service supplies township, range and section geometry compiled from cadastral survey records and other public control sources.

Saskatchewan

ISC Surface Cadastral integration is planned but not active. LSD Field Maps does not extend Alberta’s grid formula into Saskatchewan.

British Columbia

Peace River Block DLS and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Grid require separate provincial datasets. They are identified as pending and are not approximated.

Accuracy limitations

A polygon centre is not necessarily a lease entrance, wellhead, facility, legal access route or safe destination. Road allowances and survey geometry may differ from visible roads or imagery. Satellite imagery dates and positions can also vary.
